A Kalshi contract price is just an implied probability wearing a different outfit. A market trading at 40ยข is saying the event has roughly a 40% chance of happening. Sportsbooks express that same 40% as American odds (+150) or decimal odds (2.50). How do I convert Kalshi cents to a probability?
It's a direct one-to-one mapping: a price in cents is the implied probability in percent. 40ยข โ 40%, 72ยข โ 72%. This ignores the small spread and fees, but it's the right mental model for comparing a Kalshi market to a betting line.
How do American odds convert to implied probability?
For positive odds: 100 / (odds + 100). For negative odds: (โodds) / (โodds + 100). So +150 implies 100 / 250 = 40%, and โ200 implies 200 / 300 โ 66.7%. The converter does this automatically in both directions.
What are decimal odds?
Decimal odds show your total return per $1 staked, including your stake. 2.50 means a $1 bet returns $2.50 ($1.50 profit). Implied probability is simply 1 / decimal odds, so 2.50 โ 40%.
Why don't the probabilities across both sides add to 100%?
On sportsbooks they add to more than 100% โ that excess is the bookmaker's margin (the vig). On Kalshi, the Yes and No prices also include a spread. Removing that margin to get a 'fair' probability is what de-vigging does, and it's the basis of our Edge Scanner.
